Data Storage at the Faculty of Arts
FAQ
Am I logging in to the correct server?
-
mrakoplas.phil.muni.cz - mail server
mrakoplas.phil.muni.cz- web server
mrakoplas.phil.muni.cz - data server
Is my login user name correct?
- Usually, your user name for logging in is your last name, without diacritical marks; for accounts set up earlier in the past, it may include only the first eight characters of your last name. Only lower case letters are used. The login user name does not contain the @ character, UČO or the address of the faculty; your mail alias cannot be used to log in. The login user name is also usually displayed as the first part of your mail address in the public part of the university website.
Have I entered my password correctly?
- Are you using the correct keyboard? Typically, there are two different keyboard layouts in Windows, for Czech and US English. To switch to another keyboard, use the combination of keys Alt + left Shift or click CZ or EN (CES or ENG for newer versions of Windows) on the toolbar in the bottom right corner.
- Are you entering numbers using the numeric keypad? The NumLock indicator must be on.
On the contrary, check the CapsLock indicator - if it is on, it means that your are typing capital letters in your password.
What program and method should I use to access the server?
- For terminal connection to university servers, it is possible to use any program using the ssh protocol; we recommend putty. To transfer files, we recommend scp or sftp protocols and winscp program or a suitable plugin for Total Commander or Salamander. The unsecured ftp protocol is not supported.
What should I do if I am unable to connect?
- Smaller business networks are often protected by a very restrictive firewall that does not allow ftp connection - you can contact your local network administrator or try whether the traffic to the university VPN passes through.
Is it possible that my account is blocked?
-
- Your account could be blocked due to infringement of the university directives or safety rules. (Have you disclosed your password to others? Have you sent chain letters? Is your password too easy to guess?) The account will usually be blocked until you change your password using the form in the IS.
If you are looking for assistance from the server administrators, please contact cit@phil.muni.cz with a detailed description, which should include:
- your identification (UČO and name);
- what is still working fine;
- what is wrong, what messages appear on the screen;
- what IP address are you logging in from; to check your IP address, click http://www.phil.muni.cz/help or, for example, http://www.mojeip.cz/;
- if possible, very precise date and time of all attempts, so we can have a look in the system logs - whether the attempt to connect reached the university network; the date and exact time of your connection attempt can also be found on http://www.phil.muni.cz/help.
