MUNI Connection from Home (eduVPN)

Instructions: Connecting to eduVPN on Linux Systems

It is recommended to use the Deb or RPM package to install the eduVPN Linux client. You can also install using Pip from PyPi or directly from GitHub. EduVPN distributes packages for Fedora using RPM and for Debian and for Ubuntu using Deb.

Currently we only provide x86_64 packages for RPM and DEB (we use the compiled dependency). If you want to install the client on ARM64, use the Pip installation method.

Installation Using a Script

eduVPN provides a script that makes installation easy. This script works on platforms for which official packages are available, i.e. Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora and CentOS.

curl --proto '=https' --tlsv1.2 https://docs.eduvpn.org/client/linux/install.sh -O
bash ./install.sh

(On Debian/Ubuntu systems, you must first install Curl using the command sudo apt update && sudo apt install curl. Fedora systems have Curl installed automatically.)

Manual Installation

For manual installation, follow the instructions on the eduVPN website for your Linux distribution.

Open the installed app, then look up and choose Masaryk University.

2
The app will redirect you to the university Unified Login (id.muni.cz), where you log in using you UČO and primary password.

3
After successfully logging in, you will be redirected to the eduVPN portal (eduvpn.muni.cz), where you need to give approval using the Approve button.

After logging in and approving, Masaryk University will be added to the list of your organizations. By clicking it, you will be taken to the profile selection page.

5
By clicking the chosen profile, the VPN connection will be activated.

The screen with profiles selection on the picture may not be shown to users with only one available profile, as it is chosen automatically.

The VPN connection via the chosen profile can be activated and deactivated by clicking the switch. By clicking it, you can also choose a different profile.

In the bottom under the Connection info tab, you can find information about the current connection.

Please only use the VPN connection for as long as necessary.

Having trouble connecting?
If you can't connect, see the list of common problems. Also remember to set up your firewall correctly to allow VPN connections, i.e. UDP port 443 and TCP port 443.
