MUNI Connection from Home (VPN)


Instructions: VPN Configuration for Windows 10

Every active MU student or staff member can make use of VPN. In order to log in, one must use UČO and secondary password as login data.

Installation of OpenVPN

Download the OpenVPN client, installation package adjusted for connection to Masaryk University’s VPN (version 2.4.8 for 32b system and 64b system). To find out the system type, click Start - Settings - System - About - System Type. Supported versions of Windows is 10. Older Windows operating systems are not supported.

Run the installation. The installation will be running in the background. Wait a few seconds  for its completion.

An icon of the freshly installed OpenVPN will appear on your desktop (and also right in the system taskbar).

Connection to VPN MU

Operation system’s administrator rights are required for VPN connection to function. In case you are not logged in as administrator, authentication will be required.

After running the OpenVPN, a graphic interface icon will appear on the system taskbar. After connecting, tap the application icon and select Connect.

The application’s login window will appear. You will be asked to enter login data. Use your UČO as Username and your secondary password as Password, then confirm by tapping OK.

You are connected to the university network now.

The security centre’s warning will require to allow access; check both Private networks and Public networks.

In case you have trouble connecting, have a look at the list of frequent problems. Also, do not forget to adjust firewall settings (UDP port 1194) so that it allows VPN connection.
