Network File-Storage

Large Storage

Large storages are network data repositories ("network drives") for storing large amounts of work, archive, or backup data. These repositories are suitable for storing data of massive volumes, for example, from laboratory or medical devices, for direct work, backup, or archiving. They are not ideal for a large number of small files, which are intensively worked with. They are accessible by many protocols, and their total gross capacity is measured in tens of petabytes. Repositories are available for research purposes to anyone in the academic sphere in the Czech Republic.

Large storages are intended for highly demanding users or groups who are expected to have individual needs and, at the same time, require specific technical knowledge. We recommend using the possibility of consultations at the Institute of Computer Science and CESNET at dusupport(at)cesnet.cz before using them. Our experts will help you choose a suitable solution and put it into operation.

The storages are operated by the CESNET association and the CERIT-SC Center at the MU Institute of Computer Science. The CESNET and MU teams work very closely together. We choose technically suitable solutions regardless of the device's or user's affiliation to the institution to solve the requirements.

Storage Properties

  • Capacity: It is possible to allocate capacity from units up to hundreds of TB to one user/workplace as needed.
  • Data Sharing: Data can be shared with anyone from the academic sphere of the Czech Republic, including students. The requirement is the registration of the person for CESNET data storage services.
  • Access: Storages are accessible from anywhere on the Internet via several protocols, e.g., NFS, FTPS, rsync, SCP.
  • Availability: Repositories are built to be as reliable as possible. If a problem arises, administrators try to resolve it as quickly as possible, usually only during business hours.
  • The service is intended for MU employees.
