Changes in the Task module and a new type of test task

Changes in the new ELF installation have also affected some modules. In the last of our articles on new features, we will focus on changes in the Task and Test modules.

A significant change in the Assignment module is the relocation and renaming of the Show All Assignments button. In the new version, you will find it under the name Submitted Assignments – on the right-hand side in the Administration section, at the very bottom. Clicking on it will open the familiar overview of all students and their submitted assignments.

You will also find batch actions in the Assignment module. These are displayed when you select specific submitted assignments using the checkboxes on the left. The control panel appears in a floating footer at the bottom of the screen. Bulk actions allow you to unlock or lock tasks, download them to your computer, or extend their submission deadline. In the advanced options, you can send a message to students or return tasks to “draft” status.

New test task in ELF

ELF now allows you to create test tasks in which students put elements in the correct order – for example, historical events, the development of philosophical trends, or the logical structure of an argument. This type of task is ideal where mere knowledge of facts is not enough, but understanding of the connections and relationships between them is required.

Until now, sorting could only be done using the H5P activity Sort the Paragraphs. Now it is possible to use a classic test question directly in the Test module.

Should I use the Test module or the H5P activity?
H5P activities in ELF are a great tool for practice—they are visually appealing and easy to create and use. However, unlike the Test module, they do not offer options to prevent cheating on tests and only allow for very simple forms of grading. In general, we recommend using H5P for practice during the semester and the Test module for student assessment.
