Newsletter CIT 4/2023: VR headset lending, new Digital Library and Merry Christmas!
|
|
Dear colleagues, we wish you Merry Christmas and much success in 2024.
One of the most prominent themes of the year just ended was artificial intelligence, so we tried to generate a Christmas-style photo of the faculty with its help (picture on the right). The result isn't bad, but as you can see, AI also redesigned the faculty building in its own image. :)

This year, we have added VR equipment rental to our service offering. We have the Meta Quest 2 headset that you can use for teaching purposes. The headsets will always come with a set of apps that can facilitate the use of VR in education. We can also train any interested parties in the use of the device. Bookings can be made on the service page.

We introduced the new Digital Library of the Faculty of Arts, which is newly integrated into the Digitalia MUNI ARTS infrastructure. Not only the visual appearance has changed, but also the content structure and some new features have been added. The library can still be found at digilib.phil.muni.cz.

In mid-November, we held the second annual E-learning in Practice conference, which focused on topics such as the use of technology in teaching and legal issues related to this area. The event ended with a panel discussion on Artificial Intelligence (AI), where the panelists were Klára Jelínková, Lenka Axlerová , Josef Krob, and Petr Koubský. The recording can be streamed now on MS Stream.

Would you like to work with data visualizations but don't know how to do it or what tools are currently available? We have prepared an article that describes various forms of data visualizations, including those that use modern technologies or 3D graphics, for example. Read more about these methods on our website and be inspired by them to improve your research data presentation.

Outage uploading streams to Medial
At the end of November, there was a problem with streaming from the classrooms using the Medial system. We are working with the system vendor on possible fixes, but for now the problem still persists, so please be patient. We are working hard to rectify this and apologize for the complications.

If you are creating a website in the Umbraco system and you do not know how to use a certain component, one of the texts prepared by the MU Web Centre might help you. You will find tutorials for most of the most used elements, which can make your work much easier and faster if you are just getting acquainted with the system.

Our colleagues from the Institute of Technical Training have prepared an online training course on O365 tools, which will guide you through the basic tools of the O365 office suite (Teams, Outlook, OneDrive) and show you how to use them. The course is free of charge and can be taken directly on the web without registration.

At the beginning of December, a higher number of phishing messages occurred again. On the CSIRT MU website you can read the details and learn how to recognise and deal with such messages.

Secure classroom testing is currently experiencing technical difficulties. In some cases, these issues manifest themselves by preventing students from running the desired test in ELF. We are working on a remedy, and the service will be seamless again probably early next year. However, if you will be using secure testing sooner, we recommend making a few setup changes to avoid the problem. See the article on the website for details on the settings.
